About the Project

What is Brighouse Power?

Brighouse Power is a proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The batteries would charge when electricity demand is lower, or when surplus electricity is available, and release it back to the network when demand is higher - helping balance supply and demand and enabling more renewable electricity to be used.

The facility would not generate electricity itself. It would store electricity already available on the network and release it when required.

Key elements of the proposal

✓ 18 battery storage units and associated transformers/inverters

✓ Internal access road, parking and turning areas

✓ Perimeter security fencing, controlled gates and CCTV

✓ Acoustic fencing and raised equipment platforms

✓ Surface-water drainage, landscaping and biodiversity enhancement

Site Selection

Why has this location been selected?

The site has been identified because of its proximity to the existing electricity network and Brighouse substation, reducing the length of underground cabling required and limiting unnecessary construction disturbance.

The site selection and design process has also considered:

✓  Access to the electricity network

✓  Relationship with nearby residential and commercial properties

✓  Construction access, flood risk and drainage

✓  Landscape, visual effects, ecology and biodiversity

✓  Noise, historic environment and land quality

✓  Mineral safeguarding, fire and operational safety
