Trina Solar ISBU (Brighouse Power) is preparing a planning application for a proposed Battery Energy Storage System on land to the south of Armytage Road, Brighouse. This consultation gives local residents, neighbouring businesses and other stakeholders the opportunity to learn about the proposals and submit feedback before the application is finalised.
The proposed site sits close to the existing Brighouse electricity substation, to which the development is intended to connect and provide grid-balancing services.
The site has been identified because of its proximity to the existing electricity network and Brighouse substation, reducing the length of underground cabling required and limiting unnecessary construction disturbance.
The site selection and design process has also considered:

✓ Construction access, flood risk and drainage
✓ Landscape, visual effects, ecology and biodiversity
✓ Noise, historic environment and land quality
✓ Mineral safeguarding, fire and operational safety
Electricity must be generated and consumed in balance. Battery Energy Storage Systems respond rapidly to changes in electricity supply and demand, storing power when available and releasing it when the network needs support.

A Battery Management System tracks temperature, voltage and charge.
Battery units include automatic fire detection and suppression systems.
Remote monitoring with automatic fault detection and isolation.
An Emergency Response Plan prepared before the facility is operational, with fire service engagement.
